My Story

Aching was all he could feel as he climbed higher,
Below him, the crowd grew cautious.
Carefully he reached for the next branch,
Danger loomed around him,
Exhausted he leaned back against the bark for breath.
Friends begged him to come down, it was only a football.
Growing nervous, he hesitated.
He pulled himself up, inches away from the ball.
It was just a reach away.
Just as his hope was restoring, the branch snapped.
Knowing there was nothing he could do, he let himself fall.
Luckily, his shirt caught on a stray branch.
More people had gathered beneath him, hearing the commotion.
Now any false move would send him plummeting down.
Only option now was to carry on.
People would tease if he gave up.
Quest was his middle name
Retreating was not an option
Shaking the branches furiously,
The ball came loose, falling down to the earth.
Unbelievably, he'd done it.
Victorious, he made his way back to his friends.
When he did, they were over the moon.
Xylophones were played as the game resumed.
Yet again, he'd saved the day.
Zipping up his jacket, a sense of fulfilment swept over him.
